The competition will be held on Saturday, July 18. We hope you will join us for this year’s Scopes Bluegrass Competition. Musicians and bands are accepted on a first come basis, so be sure to get your application and payment in promptly.
Festival times : Crowds expected from 11 am to 11 pm
Competition is open to all amateur bluegrass bands playing traditional and contemporary bluegrass. Bands must consist of at least 3 members, and no band member may compete with more than one band.
Individuals may have 2 accompanists.
Bands will be provided with a time slot for performance in the competition
Bands or individuals will be contacted with information closer to time of performance
Acoustic instruments only. No Power Provided.
Judging will be scored on Rhythm, Timing, Harmony, Creativity, Overall performance and Showmanship.The decision of the judges is final.
Competition, Placement and Prizes The band competition will consist of 2 rounds. In the first round every band will have 8-10 minutes to perform 1 vocal and 1 instrumental. The judges will pick 3-5 bands (depending on participation) to go on to the second round. The second round will mirror the first, 8-10 minutes for 1 vocal and 1 instrumental. Three places will be chosen.
1st place will receive $1,000
2nd place will receive $600
3rd place will receive $300
The individual competition will have 6 categories. Guitar, Banjo, Fiddle, Mandolin, Dobro and Dulcimer. Each competitor will have 2-3 minutes to perform. Three places will be chosen for each category.
1st place will receive $150
2nd place will receive $100
3rd place will receive $75
The children’s division is for 4-7 year olds and 8-12 year olds. They will have 2-3 minutes to perform. Three places will be chosen for both categories.
1st place will receive $50
2nd place will receive $35
3rd place will receive $20
Agreement is not valid until Scopes Festival Promotion Committee approves application and application has been signed by the Organizer.
